Atlanta, Georgia
Car shipping in Atlanta starts with a rule every trucker in the Southeast knows.
Ship Guy is a licensed auto transport broker. We book vetted carriers across metro Atlanta, and we do not own the trucks.
Through-trucks with no local stop must stay on Interstate 285, the Perimeter, rather than cut through downtown. Carriers with an Atlanta pickup can come inside, but they plan it carefully.
This page covers that rule, the snowbird corridor, and the corporate and airport moves. It also covers where the truck meets you on either side of the Perimeter.
Most pickups happen within 1 to 2 days. More carriers pass through here than almost anywhere in the South.
Charlotte and Nashville are one-day lanes. Miami and Chicago take about two. New York runs two to three.
Say whether you are inside or outside the Perimeter when you book. That one detail decides the meeting spot and the timing.
The Rule
Interstate 285 is the ring road, and the city keeps through-trucks on it.
Trucks without a local delivery must bypass downtown on the Perimeter. The Downtown Connector, where Interstate 75 and 85 merge, is off limits to them.
A carrier picking up in Atlanta is making a local stop and can come inside. Still, most drivers stage outside the ring and enter only for the pickup.
Spaghetti Junction, where Interstate 85 meets the Perimeter on the northeast side, jams for hours each day. Drivers time their entry around it.
Because of all that, early mornings are the reliable window inside the Perimeter. Outside it, almost any time of day works.

*2026 planning figures for a running sedan on an open trailer. SUVs and pickups run 10 to 25 percent higher; enclosed higher still. Live carrier availability on your dates decides the quote.
Atlanta is the hub of the Southeast, so nearly every lane is well traveled. Interstate 75 and 85 carry the bulk of it.
Florida lanes swing with the snowbird season. Vehicle size, condition, and the rest are explained in the cost guide.
The Corridor
Every fall, thousands of cars pass through Atlanta on the way from the Midwest to Florida.
Interstate 75 runs from Michigan and Ohio straight through the city to the Gulf Coast. Atlanta sits near the midpoint of that trip.
That traffic gives Atlanta unusually strong Florida coverage. A carrier headed south has room for one more car. A carrier headed north has room in spring.
Southbound demand is highest from October through December. Northbound demand peaks from March through May.
If you are shipping to or from Florida, those months are busy. Seasonal planning tips are on our snowbird page.
Corporate
Atlanta is home to more corporate headquarters than any city in the South.
Airlines, logistics companies, retailers, and beverage giants relocate people here from across the country. Those relocations are tied to start dates, not seasons.
Hartsfield-Jackson is the busiest airport in the world, and fly-and-ship is routine. New residents land and the car arrives a few days later.
Film and television productions south of the city move vehicles constantly. Enclosed transport for a picture car or a client’s exotic is a regular request.
Employers that reimburse the shipment get the documentation they need from us. Interstate specifics are on the state-to-state page.
Access
Atlanta neighborhoods sort into two groups for a car carrier.
Inside the Perimeter, Virginia-Highland, Inman Park, and Grant Park have narrow, tree-lined streets. Buckhead and Midtown are full of towers with parking decks a truck cannot enter.
For those, the driver meets you at a large lot or on a wide street. Ponce, Peachtree, and the big retail centers along Piedmont Road all work.
Outside the Perimeter, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, and Roswell have gated communities with their own truck rules. Send the community name and gate code.
Marietta, Smyrna, and the south side are wide and simple. In those areas, the carrier usually comes right to the house.
Who Ships Here
Universities and a reserve base add steady traffic to Atlanta’s carrier schedules.
Georgia Tech and Georgia State sit downtown and in Midtown. Emory is in Druid Hills, and the Atlanta University Center is on the west side. Cars show up each August and head out each May.
Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta moves reserve personnel on orders. Fort Moore is about ninety minutes south near Columbus.
Ship Guy is a private broker and has no connection to the military. Move planning is covered on our military page.
Your Options
Open transport is the everyday choice, and it handles Atlanta weather well.
Spring pollen here is legendary, and it coats everything for weeks. An enclosed trailer keeps a collector car clean through it, along with rain and road grit.
A commuter car washes off and rides fine on an open trailer. Both are covered on our open and enclosed pages.
The Basics
It comes down to three things: a quote, a pickup, and a delivery.
Once you approve the price, a carrier is assigned. The driver records the car’s condition on a Bill of Lading and you both sign at pickup. That record is your baseline at delivery.
Our how it works and preparation guides cover each step.
Why Ship Guy

Ship Guy carries active FMCSA brokerage authority backed by a $75,000 surety bond. Both are verifiable.
You work with one coordinator from quote to delivery. That contact can arrange open, enclosed, or expedited transport. The services page shows the full range.

Atlanta FAQ
Because most carriers stage on Interstate 285 and enter the city only for the pickup itself. Through-trucks are required to bypass downtown, and drivers avoid the Connector and Spaghetti Junction when they can. Meeting near the ring road saves the driver an hour in traffic. If you are inside the Perimeter, an early morning curbside pickup is still possible. We plan it either way.
New York usually runs six hundred to about nine hundred dollars for a sedan. Chicago runs five hundred to about seven hundred thirty. Both are busy lanes and stay competitive. SUVs and pickups add 10 to 25 percent, and enclosed adds more. A quote will nail down the number for your dates.
Yes, fly-and-ship is routine in Atlanta. Delivery is set for the days after you land. The handoff can happen near the airport, at your new address, or at a lot nearby. An adult has to be at the handoff to sign. Tell us when you land and we schedule around it.
Yes, corporate moves are a large part of our Atlanta business. We plan the pickup around your start date. If your company reimburses the shipment, we provide the paperwork it needs. Two weeks of notice is plenty. Open, enclosed, and expedited transport are all on the menu.
It depends on the community. Some allow a full-size truck with a gate code, and others keep trucks off interior streets. Send the community name and gate code when you book. If the truck cannot enter, the driver meets you at the gate or a nearby lot. Access is confirmed before pickup day.
Often not the narrow, tree-lined blocks themselves. A seventy-five-foot carrier needs room to turn and stop. The driver meets you on Ponce, Peachtree, or at a large lot nearby. It is a few minutes from home. Send the address and we will tell you which case applies.
Yes, August and May are our student months. Georgia Tech is in Midtown, and Emory is in Druid Hills. The handoff usually happens at a nearby lot rather than a dorm. An adult needs to be present to sign. Both months fill fast, so book a couple of weeks ahead.
Yes, Dobbins in Marietta is inside the metro and easy to serve. Fort Moore is about ninety minutes south near Columbus. Base housing is behind a gate, and the handoff happens outside it. The schedule is built around your report date. Ship Guy is private and has no military affiliation.
Yes, we ship vehicles that will not start. A winch is needed, and the slower loading comes with a fee. We need to know whether it rolls, steers, and brakes. Those answers pick the carrier and set the plan.
Start with the two addresses, pickup and delivery. Include the year, make, and model. State whether it runs and rolls. Decide on open or enclosed and share your dates. That is all an accurate Atlanta quote needs. Sharper details, sharper number.
