Rhode Island

Rhode Island auto transport: the smallest state, on the busiest corridor

Rhode Island auto transport is the easiest booking in New England. The whole state sits an hour from Boston on Interstate 95.

Ship Guy is a licensed auto transport broker. We book vetted carriers across Rhode Island, and we do not own the trucks.

Interstate 95 crosses from Connecticut through Providence to Massachusetts in forty miles. Interstate 195 reaches the East Bay, and Interstate 295 bypasses the city. Route 4 and Route 1 carry South County and the beaches.

This page covers the corridor, Providence and its hills, Newport and the base, and South County in summer. It also covers the mill towns, the Florida lane, and the storms.

Rhode Island at a glance

Most pickups happen within 1 to 3 days anywhere in the state. Aquidneck Island and Westerly run 2 to 4 days in summer.

Boston and Hartford are same-day lanes. New York and Portland take a day. Philadelphia and Washington take one to two, and Florida runs three to four.

Rhode Island has no city page yet. This page carries the detail for Providence, Warwick, Cranston, Newport, Westerly, and the rest.

The Corridor

Interstate 95, 195, and 295

Every carrier crossing New England passes within a few miles of every Rhode Island address.

Interstate 95 runs from Westerly through Warwick and Providence to Pawtucket and the Massachusetts line. Boston carriers reach the state in an hour, and New York carriers in three.

Interstate 195 runs east from Providence through the East Bay to Fall River and the Cape. Interstate 295 loops around the west side of the metro.

Route 4 and Route 1 carry the south shore to Narragansett and Westerly. Route 24 and Route 138 reach Newport over the bridges. The Pell Bridge toll is built into every quote.

Nothing in the state is more than an hour from the corridor. That keeps availability strong and prices low.

Providence

College Hill, the Hospitals, and the Mill Streets

Providence is a city of hills and narrow streets. The driver meets you where the truck can stop.

College Hill holds the university and the design school on steep streets that a seventy-five-foot trailer cannot climb. The driver meets you on North Main Street, by the train station, or at a lot off 95.

The hospitals move residents and physicians every June. The campuses send cars in each September and home each May. Federal Hill, Fox Point, and the West End have narrow mill-era streets with the same answer.

Warwick and Cranston to the south are wide grids where the truck usually reaches the curb. The airport in Warwick makes fly-and-ship routine.

If your employer reimburses the shipment, we take care of the paperwork it needs. The state-to-state page covers the interstate leg of the move.

*2026 estimates for a running sedan on an open trailer, priced from Providence. SUVs and pickups add about 10 to 25 percent, and enclosed higher again. Bridge tolls are included, and season plus carrier availability on your dates set the real quote.

Boston and Hartford are among the cheapest lanes anywhere, because carriers run the corridor constantly. New York and Philadelphia follow.

The Florida lane moves with the season more than with distance. The cost guide explains the other pieces of the price.

Newport

The Base, the Bridges, and the Mansions

Newport ships on the Navy calendar and the summer calendar, and both cross a bridge.

Naval Station Newport hosts the War College, the officer training school, and the surface warfare school. Officers rotate on class schedules year round. Many ship a second vehicle with us, since orders may cover only one car.

The base is gated, so the driver meets you outside it. Ship Guy is a private broker with no connection to the Navy. PCS timing is spelled out on our military page.

The mansions along Bellevue Avenue and the colonial streets downtown leave no room for a trailer. Summer traffic fills the island from June through September. The driver meets you at a lot near the bridge or on West Main Road.

Jamestown, Middletown, and Portsmouth share the island lanes. Block Island takes a ferry, and carriers deliver to the dock in Point Judith.

South County & the Mill Towns

Narragansett, Westerly, Woonsocket, and the East Bay

The rest of the state is beaches in summer and mill towns year round.

Narragansett, Westerly, and Watch Hill fill with summer residents from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Route 1 crawls on weekends. Second-home owners ship cars down in June and home in September. The handoff happens on Route 1 or in town.

The state university in Kingston sends cars in each September and home each May. The handoff takes place at a lot near campus. An adult signs off on a student’s car.

Woonsocket, Pawtucket, and Central Falls have dense mill-era streets, and the driver meets you on a main road. Bristol and Warren in the East Bay fill for the Fourth of July.

Seasons & Weather

The Florida Lane, Nor’easters, and the Bay

Rhode Island empties toward Florida each fall and braces for the ocean each winter.

Retirees ship cars to Florida from October through December and bring them home from April through June. Interstate 95 carries the whole trip, and our snowbird page has planning tips.

Nor’easters close the corridor a few times each winter, and carriers wait for the plows. Coastal flooding hits the bay towns in a strong storm, and the state remembers what a hurricane does.

Summer is mild and busy, and fall is the easiest season to book.

Your Options

Open or Enclosed in Rhode Island?

Open transport is the everyday choice, and the Boston and Florida lanes both run on it.

Enclosed transport keeps a car covered against salt air, road salt, and attention. Newport, Watch Hill, and the East Side keep enclosed carriers busy with collector cars.

A commuter car rides open up the corridor without trouble. Our open and enclosed pages compare the two in detail.

The Basics

How It Works and How to Prepare

A price, a handoff near the corridor, and a delivery, with the bridge toll counted.

Once the price is approved, a carrier already on the corridor takes the booking. The driver records the car’s condition on a Bill of Lading, and you sign it before it loads. That record is your guide when the car arrives.

The how it works and preparation guides go step by step.

Rhode Island FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is car shipping from Rhode Island so easy to book?

Because the whole state sits an hour from Boston on Interstate 95. Every carrier crossing New England passes within a few miles of every address. Boston and Hartford are same-day lanes at one hundred fifty to two hundred forty dollars. Nothing in the state is more than an hour from the corridor.

How much does it cost to ship a car from Rhode Island to Florida?

Orlando from Providence usually runs eight hundred twenty to eleven hundred eighty dollars for a sedan. It is about twelve hundred fifty miles down Interstate 95. Miami runs a little more. Season outweighs mileage, and a southbound car in November costs more than in July. Larger vehicles add 10 to 25 percent to those estimates.

Can the carrier come to my house on College Hill or in Newport?

Not on the hill or the mansion streets. College Hill is too steep and Newport's colonial streets too narrow for a seventy-five-foot trailer. The driver meets you on North Main Street, at a lot off 95, or near the Newport bridge. It is minutes from home.

Do you handle PCS moves to Naval Station Newport?

Yes, the War College and the officer schools rotate on class schedules year round. Many ship a second vehicle with us, since orders may cover only one car. The base is gated, so the driver meets you outside it. Ship Guy is a private broker with no ties to the Navy.

Is the Newport bridge toll added to my price?

It is already inside the quote. Carriers pay the Pell Bridge and price accordingly. There is no separate line. Interstate 95, 195, and 295 carry no toll.

Can you deliver to Narragansett or Westerly in summer?

Yes, with a meeting spot on Route 1 or in town. The beach towns fill from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and Route 1 crawls on weekends. We book beach pickups for weekday mornings in summer. Second-home owners ship cars down in June and home in September.

Can you ship a car for a Brown, RISD, or URI student?

Yes, student cars move every September and again each May. College Hill means a handoff on North Main Street or at a lot off the interstate. Kingston uses a lot near campus. An adult signs for the car at the lot.

Do you ship to Block Island?

We deliver to the ferry dock in Point Judith, and the island leg goes by ferry. Ferry reservations for a car fill weeks ahead in summer, so book that first. Once the car is on the island, you or a local driver take it from the dock.

Can you ship a car that does not run in Rhode Island?

Yes, non-running cars ship from every part of Rhode Island. A winch-equipped carrier loads it, and the extra time is charged on the quote. Say whether it still rolls, steers, and brakes.

What do you need for a Rhode Island car shipping quote?

Both addresses, with the town for a hillside, island, or beach pickup. The year, make, and model. Whether it runs and rolls. Open or enclosed, and the range of dates that suits you. That is a complete Rhode Island quote request.
