Delaware
Delaware auto transport is easy at the top of the state. The bottom takes a little planning.
Ship Guy is a licensed auto transport broker. We book vetted carriers across Delaware, and we do not own the trucks.
Interstate 95 crosses Wilmington and Newark on its way between Baltimore and Philadelphia. Every carrier on the East Coast corridor passes through. South of the canal, US 13 and Route 1 carry the state to Dover and the beaches.
This page covers the corridor and its toll, Wilmington and the university, and the air base. It also covers the retirees moving to Sussex County, the beach towns in summer, and the farm roads.
Most pickups happen within 1 to 3 days in New Castle County. Kent and Sussex run 2 to 4 days.
Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, and New York are same-day lanes from Wilmington. Boston and Richmond take a day. Florida runs three.
Delaware charges a toll on its stretch of Interstate 95 and on Route 1. Both are built into every quote, so there is never a separate line.
The Corridor
Delaware sits on the corridor, and the corridor sits on Delaware for exactly twenty miles.
Interstate 95 enters from Maryland, passes Newark and Wilmington, and crosses into Pennsylvania. Interstate 295 and 495 branch to the Delaware Memorial Bridge and New Jersey.
The state toll plaza on Interstate 95 is one of the most expensive per mile in the country. Carriers pay it. Route 1 south to Dover and the beaches charges a toll as well.
US 13 runs the length of the state without a toll. US 301 crosses the south to Maryland. Carriers headed for Kent and Sussex choose between speed and cost.
Addresses near Wilmington and Newark schedule fast. Dover takes an extra day, and the beaches and the western farm towns take two.
Wilmington & Newark
The north of the state runs on credit cards, chemistry, and a campus.
The banks and card issuers headquartered in Wilmington relocate employees from across the country on start dates. The chemical companies along the river add engineers on program schedules.
Wilmington’s older neighborhoods have rowhouses and narrow streets, and the driver meets you on a main road. Greenville and Hockessin have winding estate roads with the same answer. The suburbs around Christiana are wide grids.
The University of Delaware in Newark sends cars in each August and home each May. Campus streets are tight during move-in, so the handoff happens at a lot near Interstate 95.
If your employer reimburses the shipment, we handle the documentation. The state-to-state page explains the interstate side.

*2026 estimates for a running sedan on an open trailer, priced from Wilmington. SUVs and pickups add about 10 to 25 percent, and enclosed more. Tolls are included, and season plus carrier availability on your dates set the real quote.
Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, and New York are among the cheapest lanes anywhere, because the corridor never stops. A Wilmington pickup often rides a truck already headed that way.
Florida lanes climb in the fall retiree season. The cost guide deals with vehicle size, condition, and the rest.
Dover
Dover Air Force Base is the largest airlift hub on the East Coast, and it moves families constantly.
Aircrews, maintainers, and their families rotate in and out year round, with a summer peak. Many ship a second vehicle through us, since orders may cover only one.
Base housing is gated, so the driver meets you outside the gate on Route 1 or in Dover. The state government adds relocations on its own calendar.
Ship Guy is a private broker and not affiliated with the military. PCS timing is covered on our military page.
Sussex County
The south of the state is one of the fastest-growing retirement destinations on the East Coast.
Low taxes draw retirees from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. They settle in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Millsboro, and the new communities off Route 1. Most ship a car in and later a second one for the beach house.
Those communities usually have a gate. Send the community name and the code, and we confirm access before dispatch.
From Memorial Day through Labor Day, Route 1 and the beach towns fill with traffic. A carrier loses hours. We schedule beach pickups for weekday mornings in summer.
Many of the same households winter in Florida. Our snowbird page handles that lane.
Access & Weather
Western Kent and Sussex are farm country, and the coast floods when the wind blows the right way.
Poultry farms and grain fields sit on long gravel drives and narrow county roads. For those, the driver meets you on US 13, Route 1, or in the nearest town.
Nor’easters close the corridor a few times each winter and push water into the bayside towns. Carriers wait out the storm and the flooding.
Summer thunderstorms and the occasional hurricane remnant pass through. Neither changes much beyond the loading hour.
Your Options
Open transport is the everyday choice, and the corridor lanes ride it.
Enclosed transport keeps a car covered against salt air, winter slush, and grit. Greenville and the beach estates keep enclosed carriers busy with collector cars.
A commuter car goes open without a problem. Our open and enclosed pages walk through the choice.
The Basics
Three things happen in order: a price is set, the car is loaded, and the car arrives.
After approval, a corridor carrier takes the booking. The driver logs the car’s condition on a Bill of Lading, which you sign before loading. At delivery, the car is compared to that log.
The how it works and preparation guides go step by step.
Why Ship Guy
We use the corridor traffic that already crosses the state. The southern legs are planned around the tolls and the season.
Ship Guy holds active FMCSA brokerage authority and a $75,000 surety bond, both verifiable in federal records.
One coordinator carries the shipment from quote to delivery and can arrange open, enclosed, or expedited transport. The full range is shown on the services page.
Delaware FAQ
They are included in the quote. Carriers pay the Delaware toll plaza and the Route 1 tolls and price accordingly. There is no separate line on the quote. Carriers headed south sometimes use US 13 instead, which carries no toll.
Orlando from Wilmington usually runs seven hundred to nine hundred eighty dollars for a sedan. It is about nine hundred sixty miles down Interstate 95. Miami runs a bit more. Fall retiree demand lifts the price from October through December. Larger vehicles run about 10 to 25 percent more.
Because they are thirty and seventy miles away on a corridor carriers run all day. Both usually cost one hundred fifty to two hundred forty dollars for a sedan. Washington and New York follow at a slightly higher price. A Wilmington pickup often rides a truck already headed that way.
Yes, the base rotates aircrews and families year round, with a summer peak. Many ship a second vehicle through us, since orders may cover only one. Housing is gated, so the driver meets you outside the gate. We schedule the pickup around your report date. Ship Guy is a private broker with no military affiliation of its own.
It depends on the community. Most Sussex County developments have a gate and their own truck rules. Where the truck cannot enter, the driver meets you at the entrance or a nearby lot. Send the community name and code when you book, and we confirm access before dispatch.
From Memorial Day through Labor Day, yes. Route 1 and the beach towns fill, and a carrier loses hours in the afternoon. We schedule beach pickups for weekday mornings in summer. The north of the state runs normally.
Yes, student cars move in each August and out each May. Campus streets are tight during move-in, so the handoff happens at a lot near Interstate 95. An adult signs for the vehicle. Both windows fill up, so book early.
Yes, but not down a gravel drive. A seventy-five-foot trailer stays on US 13, Route 1, or the paved county road. The driver meets you there or in the nearest town. Farm pickups run 2 to 4 days rather than 1 to 3.
Yes, we arrange transport for non-running cars anywhere in Delaware. The carrier brings a winch, and loading takes longer for a fee. Let us know whether it can roll, steer, and brake.
Both addresses, plus the community name for a gated one. The year, make, and model. Whether it runs and rolls. Open or enclosed, plus a date range. That covers an accurate Delaware quote.
