North Carolina
North Carolina auto transport runs on three interstates and the largest military population on the East Coast. The state changes completely from one end to the other.
Ship Guy is a licensed auto transport broker. We book vetted carriers across North Carolina, and we do not own the trucks.
Interstate 85 links Charlotte to the Triad and the Triangle. Interstate 40 crosses from Asheville through Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and Raleigh to Wilmington. Interstate 95 runs the eastern plain as the Florida lane.
This page covers the corridors, the Triad, the posts and the Marine bases, and Wilmington and the coast. It also covers the Outer Banks, Asheville and the mountains, the ice, and the city pages.
Most pickups happen within 1 to 3 days in Charlotte, the Triangle, the Triad, and along the interstates. The Outer Banks and the mountains run 2 to 5 days.
Atlanta, Richmond, Charleston, and Columbia are same-day lanes. Washington, Nashville, and Jacksonville take a day. New York and Florida run two to three.
Charlotte, Durham, and Raleigh have their own pages. This page carries Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Fayetteville, Jacksonville, Wilmington, Asheville, the coast, and the rest of the state.
The Corridors
North Carolina sits between the Northeast and Florida, and the carriers cross it in every direction.
Interstate 85 runs the Piedmont from Charlotte through Greensboro and Durham to Virginia. Interstate 40 crosses the whole state from the Tennessee line at Asheville to the port at Wilmington.
Interstate 95 runs the eastern plain through Rocky Mount, Fayetteville, and Lumberton, carrying the Northeast-to-Florida lane. Interstate 77 links Charlotte to Virginia, and Interstate 26 links Asheville to South Carolina.
Interstate 40 through the Pigeon River gorge at the Tennessee line was torn apart in 2024. It has run with restrictions since. A carrier headed west from Asheville plans for it.
Towns on those roads schedule fast. The Outer Banks, the mountain counties, and the Sandhills take an extra day or two.
City Pages
Charlotte, Durham, and Raleigh have their own pages with the banking corridor, the Research Triangle, and neighborhood meeting spots. The Triad, Fayetteville, Jacksonville, Wilmington, Asheville, the coast, and the rest of North Carolina are covered from this page.
The Triad
The three cities of the Triad sit where Interstate 40 and 85 meet, and carriers stage there.
Greensboro ships on the cargo airport, the universities, and the new plants along the interstate. Winston-Salem ships on the medical center, the university, and the tobacco district’s old streets.
High Point holds the furniture market each April and October. The showroom district fills with buyers and trucks for a week each time. We schedule High Point pickups around the market.
The Triad’s older neighborhoods have narrow streets and low trees. The driver meets you on a main road nearby. The suburbs toward Kernersville and Clemmons are wide grids.
If your employer reimburses the shipment, we prepare the records it needs. The state-to-state page covers the interstate part.

*2026 estimates for a running sedan on an open trailer, priced from the nearer city. SUVs and pickups add about 10 to 25 percent, and enclosed more still. Season and carrier availability on your dates fix the real quote.
Interstate 85 and 77 lanes to Atlanta, Columbia, and Richmond are the cheapest, because carriers run them daily. The Florida lane on Interstate 95 swings with the fall migration.
The Outer Banks and the mountains cost more per mile because the carrier detours. The cost guide explains what else moves the estimate.
Military
North Carolina moves more military households than any state on the East Coast.
Fort Bragg in Fayetteville is the largest Army post in the country. It deploys and returns whole divisions. Families rotate year round, with the heaviest moves from May through August.
Camp Lejeune and the New River air station in Jacksonville rotate Marines and families on their own cycles. Cherry Point in Havelock does the same. Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro flies fighters and tankers.
The Coast Guard base in Elizabeth City adds rotations on the northern coast. Housing at every installation is gated, and the driver meets you outside.
Many families ship a second vehicle through us when orders pay for a single car. Ship Guy is a private broker, not affiliated with any post or base. Our military page has the PCS timing.
The Coast
The North Carolina coast runs on a port, a university, and a chain of islands with one road.
Wilmington sits at the end of Interstate 40 with the port and the university. A film industry relocates crews on production schedules. The historic downtown has brick streets, and the driver meets you on Market Street or near the interstate.
The beach towns from Wrightsville to Sunset Beach fill from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The bridges back up on weekends. The Crystal Coast around Morehead City and Emerald Isle runs on the same clock.
The Outer Banks are a hundred miles of barrier island reached by two bridges and a ferry. One road runs the length. Pickups there run 3 to 6 days. The handoff happens on Highway 12 or in Nags Head or Kill Devil Hills.
Hurricane season runs June through November, and the islands evacuate first. Carriers leave the coast days before a landfall. The flooding along Interstate 95 after a storm can close it for a week.
The Mountains
Western North Carolina is the highest ground east of the Mississippi, and the roads follow the ridges.
Asheville sits where Interstate 40 and 26 meet. The medical center, the tourist season, and the retirees each relocate people on their own schedules. Its older neighborhoods climb steep, narrow streets, and the driver meets you on a main road.
Boone and the state university sit up Highway 421. The ski towns and second homes around Blowing Rock and Banner Elk sit on winding two-lane roads. Mountain pickups run 2 to 5 days.
The Blue Ridge Parkway bans commercial vehicles. The hurricane damage from 2024 still shapes the routes through the gorges. Winter snow and ice close the mountain interstates a few times a season.
Fall foliage brings tour traffic to every mountain road for a few weeks in October.
Weather
North Carolina weather is mild most of the year, with a few days that stop everything.
Ice storms shut the Piedmont a few times a decade. A light one closes it for a day. Carriers wait it out, because no one moves a loaded trailer on Carolina ice.
Hurricanes and their remnants flood the coast and the eastern plain from August through October. Spring brings tornadoes and a pollen coat that turns every car yellow for a few weeks.
Summer heat and humidity move only the loading hour.
Your Options
Open transport is the everyday choice, and the Florida lane and the base moves run on it.
Enclosed transport keeps a car covered against pollen, ice, and salt air. Pinehurst, the Asheville estates, and the coast keep enclosed carriers busy with collector cars.
A commuter car rides open down Interstate 85 and arrives fine. Our open and enclosed pages lay out the difference.
The Basics
A price, a loading on the corridor, and a delivery. The coast and the mountains set their own timing.
When the price is approved, a carrier on Interstate 85, 40, or 95 takes the booking. The driver writes the car’s condition on a Bill of Lading, and you sign it before it loads. That form is your checklist at the other end.
Our how it works and preparation guides cover each step.
Why Ship Guy
We know the posts, the one-road islands, and the gorge that still shapes the mountain routes.
Ship Guy holds active FMCSA brokerage authority and a $75,000 surety bond, both checkable in the federal register.
One coordinator carries the shipment from quote to delivery and can set up open, enclosed, or expedited transport. The services page lists everything we can arrange.

An adult signs the paperwork for a student car. The Triangle campuses are covered on the Durham and Raleigh pages.
Yes, non-running cars ship from every part of North Carolina. A winch-equipped carrier loads it, and the extra time is billed as a fee. Tell us if it can still roll, steer, and brake.
