Georgia auto transport on the crossroads of the Southeast

Georgia auto transport sits at the midpoint of the busiest north-south lane in the East.

Ship Guy is a licensed auto transport broker. We book vetted carriers across Georgia, and we do not own the trucks.

Interstate 75 carries the Midwest to Florida straight through the state. Interstate 85 links Atlanta to the Carolinas and Alabama, and Interstate 20 crosses from Augusta to Birmingham. Interstate 95 and 16 serve Savannah and the coast.

This page covers the corridors, the port, the five installations, and the campuses and their calendars. It also covers the Florida pass-through, the Atlanta ice problem, and the cities with their own pages.

Georgia at a glance

Most pickups happen within 1 to 3 days in metro Atlanta and along the interstates. The south Georgia farm counties and the mountains run 2 to 4 days.

Charlotte, Nashville, Birmingham, and Jacksonville are same-day lanes from Atlanta. Orlando and Tampa take a day. Chicago, Dallas, and New York run two to three.

Every fall and spring, thousands of snowbird cars pass through Georgia on Interstate 75. A Georgia pickup on that lane rides a truck already making the trip.

The Corridors

Interstate 75, 85, 20, 95, and 16

Atlanta is where the interstates of the Southeast meet, and carriers stage there because of it.

Interstate 75 runs from Chattanooga through Atlanta and Macon to Valdosta and Florida. It carries the Midwest snowbird lane and most of the state’s long-haul traffic.

Interstate 85 runs northeast to Greenville and Charlotte and southwest to Montgomery. Interstate 20 crosses from Augusta and Columbia to Birmingham and Dallas.

Interstate 95 runs the coast from Savannah to Jacksonville, and Interstate 16 connects Macon to Savannah. Interstate 185 reaches Columbus, and Interstate 985 reaches Gainesville and the mountains.

Addresses along those routes schedule fast. The farm counties of south Georgia and the north Georgia mountains take an extra day or two.

The Coast

Savannah, the Port, and the New Plant

Savannah ships for reasons the rest of the state does not.

The Port of Savannah is one of the largest container ports in the country. Imported vehicles clear customs there. We ship them domestically once released, and the ocean leg is separate.

The historic district is built around squares and cobblestones, and trucks are restricted. The driver meets you on a wide road or at a lot near Interstate 16.

The new electric-vehicle plant west of the city and its suppliers are hiring by the thousand. Those workers relocate on hiring schedules. Fort Stewart in Hinesville and the Army airfield in Savannah add rotations.

Brunswick, St. Simons, and the Golden Isles sit south on Interstate 95. The submarine base at Kings Bay is near the Florida line.

*2026 estimates for a running sedan on an open trailer, priced from Atlanta. SUVs and pickups add about 10 to 25 percent, enclosed more than that. Season and carrier availability on your dates fix the real quote.

The Florida lanes are the busiest and swing with the snowbird season. Charlotte, Nashville, and Birmingham stay cheap year round because carriers run them daily.

Interstate 20 west to Dallas and Interstate 85 north to the Northeast are steady. The cost guide explains vehicle size, condition, and the other variables.

Military

Moore, Eisenhower, Stewart, Robins, and Kings Bay

Georgia has five major installations, and each moves families on its own calendar.

Fort Moore in Columbus trains soldiers on class cycles year round. Fort Eisenhower in Augusta hosts the Army cyber command and rotates specialists constantly.

Fort Stewart in Hinesville deploys and returns whole brigades. Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins is one of the largest employers in the state. The submarine base at Kings Bay rotates sailors.

Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta and the Marine logistics base in Albany add south Georgia moves. Every installation is gated, so the handoff happens just outside.

Many families ship a second vehicle through us when orders cover only one. Ship Guy is a private broker with no military affiliation, and our military page walks through PCS timing.

Calendars

Masters Week, Athens Game Days, and the Campuses

A few Georgia weeks change where a truck can go.

Masters week in April fills Augusta with visitors, and the roads around the course close or crawl. We schedule Augusta pickups before or after the tournament.

The University of Georgia in Athens sends cars in each August and home each May. Home football Saturdays close the campus streets. Georgia Tech, Emory, and Georgia State in Atlanta follow the same calendar.

Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Kennesaw State, and the other campuses add smaller waves. Campus streets are tight, so the truck meets you at a lot nearby.

The auto plant in West Point relocates workers on program schedules. Dealer transfers keep the Atlanta yards busy year round.

Weather

Atlanta Ice, Spring Storms, Coastal Hurricanes, and Pollen

Georgia weather is mild most of the year, with a few days that stop everything.

Ice is the big one. A few times a decade, freezing rain shuts metro Atlanta for days, and no carrier moves on it. We wait it out and tell you the moment the roads clear.

Spring brings tornadoes and hail from March through May. When a warning is issued, the driver pulls off the road until it passes.

Hurricane season touches the coast from June through November. Savannah and the Golden Isles evacuate up Interstate 16, and carriers leave before a landfall.

Spring pollen coats every car in the state yellow for a few weeks. Enclosed transport keeps a collector car clean through it.

Your Options

Open or Enclosed in Georgia?

Open transport is the everyday choice, and the Florida lane rides on it.

Enclosed transport keeps pollen, storm debris, and grit off a car. Buckhead and the lake communities keep enclosed carriers busy with collector cars.

A commuter car rides open with no trouble at all. Our open and enclosed pages weigh the two options.

The Basics

How It Works and How to Prepare

A price, a loading, and a delivery, usually on a truck already crossing the state.

Once the price is approved, we place the car with a carrier on the corridor. The driver records the car’s condition on a Bill of Lading, and you sign it before loading. That record is what the delivery inspection is checked against.

The how it works and preparation guides go step by step.

Georgia FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to ship a car from Georgia to Florida?

Orlando from Atlanta usually runs four hundred to five hundred eighty dollars for a sedan. It is about four hundred forty miles down Interstate 75 and the Turnpike. Jacksonville runs three hundred twenty to four hundred seventy, and Miami a bit more than Orlando. Fall snowbird demand raises the price from October through December.

Why is Georgia such a good place to ship a car from?

Because the interstates of the Southeast meet in Atlanta. The Midwest-to-Florida snowbird lane passes straight through on Interstate 75. Carriers stage in the state, and a Georgia pickup often rides a truck already making the trip. Charlotte, Nashville, and Birmingham are same-day lanes.

Can you handle a PCS move to Fort Moore, Fort Eisenhower, or Fort Stewart?

Yes, all five major Georgia installations are steady sources of moves. Many families ship a second vehicle through us when orders cover only one. Every base has a gate, and the driver meets you outside it. We set the pickup around your report date. Ship Guy is a private broker with no ties to the military.

Can you ship a car that arrived at the Port of Savannah?

The ocean leg is an international process that we do not handle. Once customs releases the car, we ship it domestically like any other. Give us the release date and the terminal. Enclosed transport suits a high-value import.

What happens if ice shuts down Atlanta during my shipment?

Carriers wait it out. Freezing rain can shut metro Atlanta for days a few times a decade. No one moves a loaded trailer on it. We tell you the moment the forecast changes the plan, and we reschedule when the roads clear.

Will Masters week affect my pickup in Augusta?

Yes, if you live near the course. The roads around it close or crawl for the tournament week in April. We schedule Augusta pickups before or after the tournament. The rest of Augusta runs normally.

Can you ship a car for a UGA, Georgia Tech, or Emory student?

Yes, student cars ship each August and head home each May. Athens closes campus streets on home football Saturdays, so we schedule around the games. Atlanta campuses are tight, so the handoff happens at a lot nearby. An adult has to sign at the handoff.

Can the carrier come to my house in the Savannah historic district?

No, the squares and cobblestones restrict trucks, and a seventy-five-foot trailer could not turn anyway. The driver meets you on a wide road or at a lot near Interstate 16. It is minutes from home. Pooler and the suburbs allow curbside.

Can you ship a car that does not run in Georgia?

Yes, cars that do not run ship from every part of Georgia. A winch-equipped carrier loads it, and the longer loading carries a fee. Let us know if it can roll, steer, and brake so we send the right truck.

What do you need for a Georgia car shipping quote?

Both addresses, with the community name if the address is gated. The year, make, and model. Whether it runs and rolls. Open or enclosed, together with a range of dates. That is a full Georgia quote request.
