Baltimore, Maryland
Car shipping in Baltimore happens in the shadow of the port. That port handles more vehicles than any other in the country.
Ship Guy is a licensed auto transport broker. We book vetted carriers across Baltimore and central Maryland, and we do not own the trucks.
Interstate 95 runs through the harbor tunnel and the Beltway circles the city. The Key Bridge is gone until it is rebuilt. That changes how a carrier crosses the harbor.
This page covers the port, the harbor crossings, and the rowhouse neighborhoods a truck cannot enter. It also covers the bases and hospitals that move so many people.
Most pickups happen within 1 to 3 days, with the Interstate 95 corridor running right through town.
Washington, Philadelphia, and New York are same-day or one-day lanes. Florida runs three days.
Rowhouse streets in Fells Point, Canton, and Federal Hill are too tight for a carrier. Tell us your block and we will name a lot nearby.
The Port
More cars and light trucks cross the docks in Baltimore than at any other American port.
Imports roll off ships at the Dundalk and Fairfield terminals. Getting them across the ocean and through customs is international work we leave to the shipping lines.
Our part starts when the terminal releases the car. From that moment it is a domestic move, and we can take it to any state.
Give us the release date as soon as you know it. Dundalk and Fairfield charge daily storage once the grace period ends. A carrier waiting at the gate avoids that.
Exotics coming off the docks usually ride enclosed to their new owners. Our enclosed auto transport page explains the option.
The Crossings
Crossing Baltimore Harbor with a car carrier takes a little planning since the Key Bridge fell.
The Key Bridge carried the outer Beltway over the harbor until it collapsed in 2024. The rebuild is not expected to open until around 2030.
That leaves the tunnels. The Fort McHenry Tunnel on Interstate 95 handles a full-size carrier without trouble. The older Harbor Tunnel is tight for a tall trailer.
Carriers headed around the city use the west side of the Beltway instead. The detour adds a few minutes, and the tolls are built into every quote.
Interstate 83 runs north to Towson and York. Interstate 70 heads west toward Frederick, and Interstate 97 drops south to Annapolis.

Interstate 95 is everything here. Washington, Philadelphia, and New York are among the cheapest lanes in the country. Carriers run them all day.
Florida lanes ride the same road and swing with the snowbird season. The cost guide explains vehicle size, condition, and the rest.
Access
Baltimore rowhouse neighborhoods were built for a different century.
Fells Point, Canton, Federal Hill, and Hampden have streets barely wide enough for two cars. Alleys are narrower still, and parking is bumper to bumper.
Mount Vernon and parts of Fells Point add cobblestones and low tree branches. A seventy-five-foot carrier cannot stop on any of it.
For those neighborhoods, the driver meets you at a large lot. Canton Crossing, the lots near the stadiums, and the big retail centers along Route 40 all work.
Towson, Catonsville, Columbia, and the county suburbs are wide and simple. There, the truck comes to the curb.
Who Ships Here
Two installations and a hospital system send a steady stream of cars through Baltimore.
Fort Meade sits twenty miles south and is one of the largest employers in the state. Aberdeen Proving Ground is thirty miles northeast. Both move personnel on orders year round, with a summer peak.
Base housing is gated at both, so the handoff happens just outside. The Naval Academy in Annapolis adds midshipmen and staff to the mix.
Johns Hopkins relocates physicians, researchers, and students from across the country. Those moves follow start dates and residency cycles rather than seasons.

Your Options
Open transport is the everyday choice, and most Interstate 95 traffic rides it.
Enclosed transport shields a car from winter salt, grit, and weather. Imported exotics coming off the docks usually ride enclosed.
A commuter car is a natural fit for an open trailer. You can read about both on our open and enclosed pages.
The Basics
The process has three parts: agree on a price, hand off the car, receive it.
When the price is approved, we assign a carrier. At pickup, the driver documents the car’s condition on a Bill of Lading and you sign. You inspect against that document at delivery.
Our how it works and preparation guides go step by step.
Why Ship Guy
We know the port schedule, the tunnel clearances, and which blocks a truck cannot enter.
Ship Guy holds active FMCSA brokerage authority, backed by a $75,000 surety bond. Both can be verified.
You deal with one coordinator from quote to delivery. That contact can arrange open, enclosed, or expedited service. Everything we offer is on the services page.

Baltimore FAQ
Yes, as soon as customs clears it and the terminal releases it. We do not handle the ocean crossing or the clearance itself. From the release point, it is a normal domestic move to anywhere in the country. Let us know the release date so a truck is waiting. Daily storage kicks in after the grace period, so timing matters. Exotics usually go enclosed from there.
Carriers cross the harbor through the Fort McHenry Tunnel on Interstate 95 instead. The Key Bridge fell in 2024 and is not expected to reopen until around 2030. The older Harbor Tunnel is tight for a tall trailer, so drivers avoid it. Trucks going around the city use the west side of the Beltway. The detour adds a few minutes, and tolls are built into the quote.
No, rowhouse streets are too narrow and parking leaves no room. Cobblestones and low branches make Mount Vernon and parts of Fells Point worse. The driver meets you at a large lot nearby, such as Canton Crossing or the stadium lots. It is a few minutes from your door. Towson and the county suburbs allow curbside pickup.
Washington is one of the cheapest lanes in the country. A sedan usually runs under two hundred fifty dollars. New York runs about two hundred twenty to three hundred forty. Both ride Interstate 95, which carriers run all day. Expect 10 to 25 percent more for an SUV or pickup. Get a quote and you have a firm number for your dates.
Yes, second-vehicle shipments are common at both installations. The move usually covers one car, and the other ships privately. Housing on both posts is gated, and the handoff happens outside. We time the pickup to your report date. Summer is the rush, so book two to three weeks ahead. Ship Guy is an independent broker and not affiliated with the military.
Yes, physicians, researchers, and students move here from across the country. Those moves follow start dates and residency cycles. The pickup is planned around your first day. If an employer reimburses the shipment, we provide the paperwork. Open, enclosed, and expedited options are all on offer.
About three days down Interstate 95 to Orlando or Miami. Driver hour limits, weather, and other stops on the trailer shape the window. Expect a realistic window from us, not a promised minute. Southbound cars are pricier between October and December. We keep you updated as the car heads south.
Yes, Baltimore City and the surrounding counties are covered from Aberdeen to Annapolis. Columbia and Towson are wide, easy deliveries. Annapolis is down Interstate 97, and the Naval Academy handoff happens outside the gate. Pricing and timing match the rest of the region.
Yes, non-running cars ship out of Baltimore all the time. A carrier with a winch handles the loading, which takes longer and adds a fee. Does it roll, steer, and brake? Tell us. The carrier is matched to those answers.
Two addresses first, pickup and delivery. Vehicle year, make, and model next. Note if it runs and rolls. Select open or enclosed and share your dates. That covers an accurate Baltimore quote. Exact input, exact output.
