Los Angeles, California
Car shipping in Los Angeles is easy to book and tricky to time. Both facts come from the same place.
Ship Guy is a licensed auto transport broker. We arrange vetted carriers across Los Angeles County, and we do not operate trucks of our own.
More carriers pass through this metro than almost anywhere else. Interstate 10 begins here, Interstate 5 runs straight through, and Interstate 15 heads for Las Vegas.
The catch is traffic and access. This page is about working around both. It also covers the exotic-car and outbound patterns that make Los Angeles its own market.
Most pickups happen within 1 to 2 days because carrier density here is so high.
Las Vegas and Phoenix are one-day lanes. Austin, Dallas, and Denver take two to three days.
Drivers prefer early-morning windows to beat freeway traffic. If you can meet a truck at seven, you will get the smoothest pickup.
Timing
Freeway traffic decides more about your pickup window than the calendar does.
The 405, the 10, the 101, and the 5 all jam from early morning until well past nine. They fill again by mid-afternoon.
Because of that, carriers plan Los Angeles stops for early mornings and late mornings. A Westside pickup at three in the afternoon can cost a driver two hours.
If you can offer a window before nine, you become the easy stop on the route. As a result, your pickup schedules faster and stays on time.
Weekends are easier on the freeways, though fewer carriers run them. A weekday morning is the sweet spot for most Los Angeles moves.

*2026 estimates, operable sedan, open carrier. Larger vehicles add roughly 10 to 25 percent. Enclosed service costs more. Your actual quote depends on carrier availability for your dates.
Outbound lanes to Texas, Arizona, and Nevada are the busiest. So many households are leaving for those states. High volume keeps them competitive.
Inbound from the East is pricier per mile, since fewer carriers head west empty. The cost guide covers the rest of the variables.
Access
Los Angeles has thousands of streets a car carrier simply cannot use.
The Hollywood Hills, Laurel Canyon, Bel Air, and parts of Silver Lake are the obvious ones. Narrow, winding, and often posted against trucks, they are off limits to a seventy-five-foot rig.
Permit-parking zones on the Westside and in Koreatown add another wrinkle. A driver cannot idle a carrier on those blocks for long.
The fix is simple: meet the truck on a wide boulevard or in a large lot. Ventura Boulevard in the Valley, Wilshire on the Westside, and big retail lots all work.
Tell us your neighborhood when you book. We will suggest a meeting spot before the driver is ever dispatched.
Enclosed
Los Angeles has more high-value cars per block than almost any city in the country.
Beverly Hills, Malibu, Calabasas, and the Palisades keep enclosed carriers busy year round. Studio and production vehicles add to that demand.
An enclosed trailer shields the car from road grit, weather, and prying eyes. Liftgate loading protects low ground clearance on a supercar.
Imported vehicles arriving through the ports are a separate, international process. Once a car is here, we arrange its domestic shipping like any other.
Our enclosed auto transport page explains the service in full.
Outbound
More cars leave Los Angeles for Texas, Arizona, and Nevada than head the other way.
Austin, Dallas, Phoenix, and Las Vegas are the big four. Denver and Nashville are close behind.
Relocating households usually ship one car and drive the other. Students at USC and UCLA send cars in each August and out again in May.
Flying out of LAX and having the car follow a few days later is a common plan. We build the pickup window around your flight.
The cross-country and state-to-state pages cover the long-distance details.
Coverage
Ship Guy arranges pickup and delivery from the Westside to the Valley to the South Bay.
Long Beach, Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Riverside each have their own dedicated pages. Everything in between is covered here.
Your Options
Open transport is the everyday standard, and the mild climate suits it.
Enclosed transport is the pick for exotics, classics, and anything you would not park on the street. It costs more and protects more.
For a commuter car, open transport is the practical option. See our open and enclosed pages for the full breakdown.
The Basics
Every move comes down to three things: a price, a pickup, and a delivery.
You approve the quote, and a carrier is booked for your car. Before loading, the driver fills out a Bill of Lading noting its condition. That same document gets checked and signed again when the car arrives.

Los Angeles FAQ
Las Vegas and Phoenix are the least expensive lanes, usually a few hundred dollars for a sedan. Texas and Colorado run higher. Chicago and the East Coast pass a thousand. Outbound Sun Belt lanes stay competitive because they are so busy. Enclosed transport and larger vehicles cost more. Request a quote for a firm number on your route.
Plan on five to six days for a coast-to-coast move. The route covers nearly twenty-eight hundred miles. Driver hour limits, weather, and the other cars on the trailer all shape the window. An exact arrival time is not something we will promise, because traffic alone rules it out. We give you a realistic range up front. Then we keep you updated as the car moves east.
Usually early morning, and there is a good reason. The 405, 10, 101, and 5 jam from early morning until past nine. Carriers plan Los Angeles stops to avoid the worst of it. If you can meet the truck before nine, your pickup schedules faster. Afternoons are possible but less reliable. We confirm the window with you the day before.
Not on the hillside streets themselves. Those roads are narrow, winding, and often posted against trucks. A seventy-five-foot carrier cannot make the turns. Instead, the driver meets you at the bottom of the hill on a wide street. Ventura Boulevard or a large lot on Sunset works well. We suggest a spot before dispatching the driver.
Yes, for almost any high-value car. An enclosed trailer shields it from road grit, weather, and attention. Liftgate loading protects low ground clearance. Beverly Hills, Malibu, and Calabasas keep enclosed carriers busy all year. It costs more than open transport. For a supercar or a collector piece, the difference is worth it.
Yes, student shipments run every August and May. Families send cars in for the school year and home for the summer. Delivery can go to student housing or a nearby address. An adult has to be present to meet the driver and sign. Those weeks get busy, so two weeks of notice helps. We plan the window around move-in dates.
Yes, and each has its own page with local details. Long Beach, Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Riverside are all covered. The same team handles every one of them. If your address falls between two pages, either will reach us. Pricing and timing follow the same metro logic. Pick whichever page matches your city.
The overseas leg is an international process we do not arrange. Once the car has cleared the port and is released, we can ship it anywhere domestically. That includes moving it from the harbor area to your home. Give us the release date and we set the pickup. Enclosed transport is available for imported exotics.
Yes, non-running vehicles ship from Los Angeles all the time. A winch-equipped carrier handles the loading, and that takes more time. Expect a fee for it. Let us know whether the car rolls, steers, and brakes. We assign a carrier based on those answers. Then we set up the pickup accordingly.
We need the pickup and delivery addresses to start. Then the vehicle’s year, make, and model. Tell us if it runs and rolls. Pick open or enclosed and give us your dates. That produces an accurate Los Angeles quote. Specific details keep the estimate tight.
