Louisville, Kentucky
Car shipping in Louisville runs through one of the busiest freight cities in the country. Most people never notice.
Ship Guy is a licensed auto transport broker. We book vetted carriers across Louisville and Southern Indiana, and we do not own the trucks.
The UPS Worldport at the airport is the largest package hub on earth. Interstate 65, 64, and 71 meet here, so trucks of every kind pass through daily.
This page covers what that means for your pickup, plus Derby week and the tolled bridges. It also covers Fort Knox and the two Ford plants that keep dealers busy.
Most pickups happen within 1 to 2 days, with carriers constantly moving through the freight hub.
Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Lexington, and Nashville are same-day lanes. Chicago and St. Louis take about a day.
The first Saturday in May is Derby Day. The week before it fills the south end of town. Book around it if you live near Churchill Downs.
The Hub
Louisville is a freight town, and car carriers benefit from it.
Interstate 65 runs north to Indianapolis and south to Nashville. Interstate 64 crosses east to Lexington and west to St. Louis. Interstate 71 heads northeast to Cincinnati.
The Watterson and Gene Snyder expressways loop the city and keep most carriers off surface streets. A driver can reach nearly any suburb from the loops in minutes.
The Worldport draws trucking companies to the area, and carriers pass through around the clock. Pickups schedule fast and short lanes stay inexpensive.

*2026 estimates for an operable sedan on an open trailer. Add 10 to 25 percent for SUVs and pickups, more for enclosed. Live carrier availability on your dates produces the real number.
Four cities are same-day lanes, and pricing on them is about as low as it gets. Interstate 65 carries the most volume in both directions.
Florida lanes swing with the season. The Interstate 65 and 75 snowbird corridor runs right past the city. Other variables are in the cost guide.
Derby Week
The Kentucky Derby is the biggest week of the year in Louisville. It changes the south end of the city.
Churchill Downs sits in the South End near the University of Louisville. The week before the race fills the surrounding streets with visitors and closures.
A car carrier cannot work near the track that week. For addresses south of downtown, we schedule before the crowds arrive or after they leave.
Downtown hotels and the airport are busy as well. The East End, St. Matthews, and Southern Indiana run normally.
If your dates land in late April or early May, mention your neighborhood. We will steer around the track.
The Bridges
Louisville serves both sides of the river, and the bridges have a wrinkle.
The Kennedy and Lincoln bridges downtown and the East End bridge are tolled. Trucks pay more than cars, and carriers account for it on Indiana pickups.
The Sherman Minton bridge to New Albany has no toll. Drivers often route through it for Southern Indiana stops.
Jeffersonville, New Albany, and Clarksville are covered on this page. The toll is built into the quote, so there is no surprise charge.
Who Ships Here
Three institutions send a steady stream of cars through Louisville carriers.
Fort Knox is about thirty-five miles south on Interstate 65. Soldiers and staff move on orders year round, with a summer peak. Housing is gated, so the handoff happens outside it.
Ford runs two large plants in the metro, and the auto industry moves people and dealer inventory constantly. Dealer transfers and online purchases are routine here.
The University of Louisville and Bellarmine send cars in each August and home each May. Ship Guy is private, with no connection to the military.
Those moves are covered in more depth on our military and state-to-state pages.
Access
Louisville’s older neighborhoods were built for horses, not trailers.
The Highlands, Old Louisville, and Germantown have narrow streets and tight parking. A seventy-five-foot carrier cannot stop on most of them.
For those, the driver meets you on Bardstown Road, Broadway, or in a large lot. It is a couple of minutes from home.
St. Matthews, Middletown, and the East End are wide and simple. There, the carrier usually pulls up to the house.
Winter ice storms hit the Ohio Valley a few times a season. They can close the interstates for hours. We call you if a route changes.
Your Options
Open transport is the everyday choice, and dealer inventory rides it every day.
Enclosed transport keeps a car covered against winter salt, road grit, and weather. The East End and Prospect keep enclosed carriers busy with collector cars.
A daily driver does well on an open trailer. Each is described on our open and enclosed pages.
The Basics
There are three moments: pricing, pickup, and delivery.
Once the price is approved, a carrier is assigned. The driver logs the car’s condition on a Bill of Lading and you sign at pickup. At delivery, that log is your checklist.
Our how it works and preparation guides go step by step.
Why Ship Guy
We know the Derby calendar, the bridge tolls, and which streets a truck avoids.
Ship Guy holds active FMCSA brokerage authority with a $75,000 surety bond behind it. Both are easy to verify.
You get one coordinator from quote to delivery. That contact can set up open, enclosed, or expedited transport. Everything we offer is on the services page.

Louisville FAQ
Not the week of the race, and the days around it are tight. Streets near the track fill with visitors and closures. We schedule South End pickups before the crowds arrive or after they leave. The East End, St. Matthews, and Southern Indiana run normally. Tell us your dates and we will check the Derby calendar.
They are already built into the quote. The Kennedy, Lincoln, and East End bridges charge trucks a toll. Carriers price Jeffersonville, New Albany, and Clarksville stops accordingly. The Sherman Minton bridge has no toll, and drivers use it when the route allows. No separate charge shows up.
Tampa and Orlando usually run six hundred fifty to nine hundred twenty dollars for a sedan. The route follows Interstate 65 and 75 through Nashville and Atlanta, about nine hundred miles. Southbound cars cost extra from October through December. Larger vehicles tack on 10 to 25 percent. Request a quote with your dates.
Because three interstates meet here and the freight hub keeps carriers passing through. Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Lexington, and Nashville are all same-day trips. A carrier with one open spot fills it cheaply on a route it already runs. Flexible dates keep longer lanes competitive too.
Yes, second-vehicle shipments are common for Fort Knox families. The base is about thirty-five miles south on Interstate 65. Housing is gated, so the handoff happens just outside it. Pickup is scheduled around your report date. Summer is the rush, so book two to three weeks out. Ship Guy has no military affiliation.
Yes, the auto industry is a big part of Louisville, and dealer transfers are routine. A car bought online out of state can be delivered to your driveway. Dealers move inventory between lots on open carriers every day. Tell us the pickup lot and the delivery address, and we handle the rest.
Usually not the narrow blocks themselves. Those neighborhoods were built long before seventy-five-foot trailers. The driver meets you on Bardstown Road, Broadway, or in a large lot nearby. It is a couple of minutes from home. St. Matthews and the East End are wide enough for curbside.
Yes, student cars are a regular August and May job. The campus is near Churchill Downs in the South End, so we avoid Derby week. We deliver to student housing or a nearby block. An adult needs to be on hand to sign. Both months get crowded, so plan ahead.
Yes, cars that do not run ship out of Louisville regularly. A winch is used, which adds loading time and a fee. Note whether it rolls, steers, and brakes. The carrier and the pickup plan follow from that.
The two addresses come first, pickup and delivery. Followed by the year, make, and model. Note whether the car runs and rolls. Choose open or enclosed and share your dates. That is all an accurate Louisville quote needs. Specific details, tight estimate.
