Open, enclosed, and expedited auto transport across the Wasatch Front, planned around the grid, the benches, and the canyon.

Salt Lake City, Utah
Car shipping in Salt Lake City is easier than in most cities its size. The reason was laid out in 1847.
Ship Guy is a licensed auto transport broker. We book vetted carriers across Salt Lake City and the Wasatch Front. The trucks are not ours; we book them.
The downtown grid was built wide enough to turn an ox team around. A seventy-five-foot carrier turns in it just fine. The canyons east of town are another matter.
This page covers the grid, the Avenues, and the winter and ski season. It also covers the tech corridor, the base to the north, and the California lane.
Most pickups happen within 1 to 3 days, and most of the valley allows curbside.
Provo and Ogden are same-day lanes. Las Vegas, Boise, and Denver take about a day. California runs one to two.
Interstate 80 over Parleys Canyon closes in winter storms, and the chain law applies. Eastbound lanes to Denver run longer from November through March.
The Grid
The city was planned with streets wide enough for a wagon team to reverse, and carriers benefit today.
Downtown blocks are enormous and the streets between them are broad. A full-size carrier can stop at the curb in most of the city and the suburbs.
The numbered grid makes addresses easy to find. A driver knows where 700 East and 2100 South meet without a map.
Sandy, Draper, West Jordan, and the valley suburbs follow the same pattern. Curbside pickup is the norm, gate permitting.
Interstate 15 runs the length of the valley, and Interstate 215 loops it. A carrier can reach most addresses from the freeway in fifteen minutes.
The Exceptions
A few neighborhoods climb the foothills, and the grid gives out.
The Avenues and Federal Heights above downtown are steep, narrow, and tightly parked. The benches in Bountiful and Cottonwood Heights have winding streets and low canopy.
For those, the driver meets you on a wide road below or in a large lot. The lots along State Street and Foothill Drive work well.
Park City sits over the mountains on Interstate 80. Its resort neighborhoods are gated and steep, and the handoff often happens near the highway.
Tell us your neighborhood and we will confirm curbside or name the spot.

*2026 planning ranges, operable sedan, open trailer. SUVs and pickups run 10 to 25 percent higher, and enclosed higher still. Canyon closures and carrier availability on your dates set the actual quote.
Interstate 15 south to Las Vegas and Los Angeles is the busiest lane, and volume keeps it competitive. Interstate 80 west to Reno and Sacramento is steady.
Eastbound lanes over Parleys Canyon cost a bit more in winter. Vehicle size, condition, and the rest are handled in the cost guide.
Winter
Salt Lake City winters are a scheduling factor in one direction more than the others.
Interstate 80 climbs Parleys Canyon east of the city toward Park City and Wyoming. Storms close it a few times a season. The chain law applies to trucks when it is open.
Carriers wait for the canyon to reopen rather than push through. Denver lanes run longer from November through March.
Ski season brings visitors from November through April. Some ship a car in for the season, and the resort towns fill with rentals.
Inversion fog settles over the valley in the coldest weeks, but it slows traffic rather than stopping it. Road salt runs all winter, and some owners choose enclosed transport for a collector car.
Who Moves Here
Three groups drive Salt Lake City relocations.
The tech corridor along Interstate 15 through Lehi, Draper, and Provo relocates engineers constantly. They come from California and across the country. Those moves follow start dates.
The University of Utah sits on the east bench above downtown. Brigham Young University is forty-five miles south. Cars arrive every August and leave every May.
Households leaving California for Utah make Interstate 15 the busiest inbound lane in the state. Most ship one car and drive the second.
If your employer is reimbursing the shipment, we produce the documentation for it. The state-to-state page picks up the interstate side.
Military
Hill Air Force Base sits thirty miles north between Layton and Ogden.
Airmen and civilians cycle through on orders year round, with the peak in summer. Base housing is gated, and the handoff is just outside it.
Many families ship a second vehicle themselves, since the move may cover only one. We fit the pickup to your report date.
Ship Guy is a private broker, independent of the military. Our military page walks through PCS planning.
Your Options
Open transport is the everyday choice, and the dry mountain climate is easy on it.
Enclosed transport keeps a car covered against winter salt, canyon grit, and sun. Park City and the east bench keep enclosed carriers busy with collector cars.
A commuter car rides open without a second thought. Both are explained on our open and enclosed pages.
The Basics
Simple as quote, pickup, delivery, and the grid makes it simpler.
Approve the price and a carrier is scheduled. The driver logs the car’s condition on a Bill of Lading, which you sign at pickup. At delivery, you compare against that log.
The how it works and preparation guides go step by step.
Why Ship Guy
We know the grid, the benches, and when the canyon is closed.
Ship Guy carries active FMCSA brokerage authority with a $75,000 surety bond behind it. Both are verifiable.
One coordinator stays on the move from quote to delivery. That person lines up open, enclosed, or expedited transport. The full range is listed on the services page.

Salt Lake City FAQ
In most of the city and the valley, yes. The streets were built wide enough to turn a wagon team. A full-size carrier stops at the curb without trouble. The Avenues, Federal Heights, and the benches are the exception. There, the driver meets you on a wide road below. Tell us your neighborhood and we will confirm.
A few times a season. Interstate 80 over Parleys Canyon closes in storms, and the chain law applies to trucks when it reopens. Carriers wait rather than push through. Denver lanes run longer from November through March. We reach out the moment the canyon changes the plan.

Yes, we move student cars in August and bring them home each May. The University of Utah sits on the east bench, and the handoff happens at a lot below campus. Provo allows curbside on most streets. An adult signs the form for the car. Both windows fill, so book ahead.
Barely. Inversion fog settles over the valley in the coldest weeks and slows traffic without stopping it. Carriers run their normal schedules through it. Road salt is the bigger winter factor, and enclosed transport is available if it worries you.
Yes, we ship cars that will not start out of Salt Lake City often. The carrier brings a winch, and the slower loading carries a fee. Mention if it can roll, steer, and brake. That picks the truck.
Start with both addresses. Add the year, make, and model of the car. Tell us whether it runs and rolls on its own. Pick open or enclosed and provide a range of dates. That is all an accurate Salt Lake City quote takes. Solid inputs, solid number.
