San Antonio, Texas
Car shipping in San Antonio runs on orders more than on any other calendar.
Ship Guy is a licensed auto transport broker. We book vetted carriers across San Antonio and Bexar County, and we do not own the trucks.
The joint base is the largest in the country, spread across Lackland, Fort Sam Houston, and Randolph. Every summer, carrier schedules show it.
This page covers the base calendar, the retirees who stay, and the two loops and their crossings. It also covers Fiesta, the Laredo lane, and the winter Texans heading south.
Most pickups happen within 1 to 3 days. The Texas Triangle carrier pool runs Interstate 35 and 10.
Austin, Houston, Corpus Christi, and Laredo are same-day lanes. Dallas takes a day. Phoenix runs three.
PCS season runs May through August, and it fills the city. If your orders fall in that window, allow two to three weeks.
Military
No city moves more military households than San Antonio.
Lackland trains every new airman in the Air Force. Fort Sam Houston is the Army’s medical center, and Randolph handles pilot training and personnel commands.
Orders bring families in and out all year, with a hard peak from May through August. Carrier calendars fill fast in those months.
Many families ship the second vehicle privately, because orders may cover only one. Housing is gated at all three, so the handoff happens outside the gate.
San Antonio also has one of the largest military retiree populations anywhere. Ship Guy is a private broker with no military affiliation, and our military page covers PCS planning.

*2026 estimates for an operable sedan on an open trailer. SUVs and trucks run about 10 to 25 percent more, enclosed more still. PCS season and carrier availability on your dates set the real quote.
Interstate 35 and 10 cross here, and the Texas Triangle lanes are cheap and constant. Interstate 37 runs to the coast, and US 281 reaches the Rio Grande Valley.
PCS season lifts prices on every lane from May through August. The cost guide addresses the other variables.
The Loops
San Antonio is ringed by two loops, and the land changes between them.
Loop 410 circles the inner city, and most of it is flat and easy for a carrier. Loop 1604 rings the suburbs, and the north side climbs into the Hill Country.
Stone Oak, The Dominion, and Shavano Park sit on hilly, winding roads, and many communities are gated. Supply the community name and gate code.
The north side has low-water crossings that flood in a storm. Few regions in the country flash-flood as often as Central Texas. Drivers wait out a crossing rather than risk it.
For hilly or gated addresses, the driver meets you at a lot on US 281 or Interstate 10. Schertz, Cibolo, and the flat suburbs allow curbside.
Fiesta
Every April, San Antonio throws a party that lasts ten days and closes half of downtown.
Fiesta brings parades down Broadway and through the center of the city. Streets close for hours at a time, and a car carrier cannot get near them.
For downtown, Alamo Heights, and the Broadway corridor, we schedule around the parade calendar. The rest of San Antonio runs normally.
Even outside Fiesta, the River Walk district is narrow and no place for a trailer. King William and Monte Vista are historic and tight. The handoff for those happens at a lot near Interstate 10 or 37.
The Border
San Antonio is the gateway to the border and the Rio Grande Valley. Both send cars through it.
Laredo is the busiest inland port in the country, about one hundred fifty miles down Interstate 35. We deliver to Laredo and Eagle Pass on the United States side.
A move into Mexico is an international shipment with customs paperwork and a different carrier. We arrange domestic shipping only.
Winter Texans from the Midwest and Canada head to McAllen and the Valley each fall. Many ship a car down through San Antonio rather than drive it twice.
Southbound demand builds from October through December, and the return runs in spring. Our snowbird page has planning tips.
Who Ships Here
Beyond the base, three more groups keep San Antonio carriers busy.
The South Texas Medical Center relocates physicians and researchers every June. The district is tight, so the handoff happens at a lot nearby.
The truck plant on the south side and its suppliers move workers and dealer inventory year round. Dealer transfers are routine here.
The University of Texas at San Antonio, Trinity, and the downtown campuses bring cars in each August. They head home each May.
Your Options
Open transport is the everyday choice, and PCS moves ride it by the thousand.
Enclosed transport keeps a car covered against hail, sun, and grit. The Dominion and Alamo Heights keep enclosed carriers busy with collector cars.
A commuter car is fine riding open. Our open and enclosed pages describe the two.
The Basics
Price, handoff, arrival. That is the sequence.
After you approve the price, a carrier is booked. The driver documents the car’s condition on a Bill of Lading, and you sign it at the handoff. At delivery, that document is what you check against.
Our how it works and preparation guides cover each step.
Why Ship Guy

Ship Guy holds active FMCSA brokerage authority with a $75,000 surety bond behind it, both verifiable.
Your move gets one coordinator from quote to delivery. Open, enclosed, and expedited all go through that one person. The services page shows the whole lineup.

San Antonio FAQ
Yes, second-vehicle shipments are the most common request we get in San Antonio. Orders usually cover one car, and the other ships privately. Housing is gated at all three, so the handoff happens outside the gate. The pickup is keyed to your report date. Summer is the peak, so allow two to three weeks. Ship Guy is not affiliated with any branch.
Usually seven hundred to nine hundred eighty dollars for a sedan. Interstate 10 runs the whole way, about nine hundred eighty miles, and carriers use it daily. Larger vehicles add around 10 to 25 percent. PCS season can lift the price from May through August. Quote it with your dates.
Usually not up the hilly, winding roads, and most of those communities are gated. Low-water crossings on the north side add a flood risk after a storm. The driver meets you at a large lot on US 281 or Interstate 10. Give the community name and gate code to us at booking.
Downtown and along Broadway, yes. Parades close streets for hours at a time over ten days each April. A carrier cannot get near a parade route. We schedule around the calendar for those addresses. The rest of the city runs normally through the whole event.
We deliver to Laredo and Eagle Pass on the United States side. A move into Mexico is an international shipment with customs paperwork and a different carrier. We arrange domestic shipping only. Ask and we will point you toward the right resource for a cross-border move.
Yes, McAllen and the Rio Grande Valley are a steady seasonal lane through San Antonio. Southbound demand builds from October through December, and the return runs in spring. Many winter residents ship a car down rather than drive it twice. Book a couple of weeks ahead in those windows.
In May. Physicians and researchers arrive at the South Texas Medical Center every June. That month fills carriers along with PCS season. We set delivery a few days before your start at a lot near the district. For a reimbursed shipment, we supply the documentation your employer wants.
Yes, we move student cars in August and again when May comes. The UTSA main campus is off Loop 1604 with easy access. Trinity and the downtown campuses are tighter, so the handoff happens at a nearby lot. An adult must sign for it. Both months are busy, so reserve ahead.
Yes, we ship cars that will not start out of San Antonio often. A winch-equipped carrier loads it, and the extra time is a fee. We will need to know if it rolls, steers, and brakes. We choose the truck from that.
Pickup and delivery addresses, first. The year, make, and model come after. Confirm whether it runs and rolls. Pick open or enclosed and pass along your dates. That covers an accurate San Antonio quote. Precise details, precise quote.
